Job Title: Mechanical Engineering Intern
Location: Laub\Hunt Packaging Systems, Norwalk, CA
Duration: 4 months, part-time, 10 to 19 hours per week, hybrid
Compensation: $17.00 per hour

We are seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineering Intern to support the design and development of high-quality liquid filling and packaging machinery. This role provides hands-on experience in mechanical design, 3D modeling, and real-world manufacturing applications using SolidWorks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and modify 3D models and detailed drawings in SolidWorks for liquid filling and packaging equipment
- Assist in the design of mechanical assemblies, components, and machine sub-systems
- Generate fabrication drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and technical documentation
- Support engineering change orders (ECOs) and revision control processes
- Participate in design reviews and provide input on manufacturability and assembly
- Collaborate with manufacturing and assembly teams to troubleshoot mechanical design issues
- Assist with prototyping, testing, and validation of new or improved equipment designs
- Conduct basic engineering calculations and tolerance analyses
- Maintain organized engineering files and documentation in accordance with company standards
Qualifications:
Required:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Proficiency in SolidWorks (part modeling, assemblies, and drawings)
- Understanding of mechanical design principles and basic machine elements
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
Preferred:
- Graduate student or alumnus preferred
- Experience with packaging machinery, automation, or industrial equipment
- Familiarity with pneumatic systems, fluid handling systems, or motion control components
- Basic understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
- Experience with sheet metal and machined part design
- Exposure to manufacturing environments or shop practices
- Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Product Data Management (PDM) systems
- Prior internship or hands-on mechanical project experience
